NO FATALITIES ON JULY 4TH

EDITORIAL PAGE OF Avoiding Death IT CAN be done. No fatalities from drowning from automobile accidents or from discharging fireworks in Washing ton on July 4 That is a record that a lot of folks thought could never be attained but it was reached this year. There were a few minor injuries from the imprudent and unlawful discharge of firecrackers but in the re joicing over the avoidance of death on the holiday these mishaps will be overlooked by all except the sufferers Probably the most remarkable thing about the no death record is the fact that there were no fatal motor accidents either in the city or on the nearby roads. We used to think that the only way this could be done on a holiday was tq lock up all the cars and leave them in garages or standing still on the streets.

But over the holiday weekend just about every car was on the move Arterial highways were packed and jammed and thousands of visitors to the National Capital increased the street traffic. And still death took a holiday. Perhaps the continual warnings and the reading after every holiday of the death toll are beginning to have.
